The Mailing Preference Service (MPS) supports your right to choose the mail you want. Unwanted, unread Direct Mail has no place in anyone's home. And if you're not interested in receiving it, the MPS will update their records for Direct Mail companies to see and adjust their lists as you request.
The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) helps you to make sure your telephone number is no longer available to organisations, including charities and voluntary organisations who may telephone you with offers and information you do not wish to receive
Under Government legislation introduced on 1st May 1999 and replaced on 11th December 2003 by the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, it is unlawful to make unsolicited direct marketing calls to individuals who have indicated that they do not want to receive such calls.
You can either do this by contacting companies directly and asking them not to call you or you can register with a central register - the TPS.
The TPS also has a Fax Preference Service and a Baby Mailing Preference Service. The Baby Mailing Preference Service helps reduce the number of baby-related mailings you receive. Many parents to be are happy to hear from companies who can help them at this exciting time in their lives but in the sad circumstances of the death of a baby, mailings to parents about baby products from well meaning companies can cause unintended hurt. This is a free service that is both sympathetic and effective.
If you are bothered by Silent Calls - the phone rings and there is no-one there, you can register with the Silent Callgard Service on 0870 4443969. There is also helpful info about what to do when you receive recorded message calls via your phone.
