Password lengths in different email clients
« on: November 02, 2015, 07:06:08 PM »
As we all get more security conscious, we are using longer passwords or pass phrases, and it is easy to fall foul of the limits on password length set by different email clients, especially as some - like Yahoo! - do not tell you when you have chosen one that is too long, it simply truncates it. That's all very well for when you login via the web browser, but if you then try and access it via an email client such as The Bat!, which stores the whole password/phrase that you chose, then your authentication will fail and you will not be able to retrieve your email via the email client.

So, to help you out, here is a list of the password maximum lengths we have found so far. We will add more as we find them!

Yahoo! 32 characters max.
Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Live Mail etc 16 characters max.
GMail 200+ characters

And just for helpfulness, here are some max. lengths for other sites/software:
Skype 20 characters max.
LinkedIn 16 characters maxx.
