Scam Warning: If you take credit cards be very careful! NEVER refund to a different card than the one you have charged. The scam works with a team of two conmen. One is face to face with you and the other is on the end of the phone. The conman in front of you wants to buy one or two items, one high price one low price. Tries to pay with a credit card. You put it in the machine, but it is declined. Lots of bluster and then he says he'll phone his wife/friend/mum and she can give you the number of his other card/her card. Calls on mobile and recites card details, expiry, security details etc and the full works and the sale goes through as mail order. Perfect! This is stage one. He has some nice pieces and you think you will get paid by the card company. But letting him take the goods, you are in breach of the card agreement, so you wouldn't get paid if he is not legit! A mail order sale has to be delivered, not picked up. But it gets worse, because he comes back later on and says he's changed his mind and only wants the smaller, less expensive piece. Asks you to refund to his card, (the one that was declined). At this point, if you refund and take the expensive piece back you will have been conned out of the smaller piece and the cash value of the larger. This is because the card on the phone will have been stolen and you are crediting money from your bank account onto his personal card! Only credit back to the card that you've charged. It is a dreadful scam and the people who operate it will more than likely prey on small traders who are less likely to be aware of this than big companies. Those people, often makers, who have just got those cc gadgets that add on to your phone and who are not au fait with the system are particularly at risk, unfortunately.
